Trash and Recycling Haulers
CSWD does NOT pick up trash, recyclables or special waste.
Below is a list of the licensed haulers who pick up trash and recyclables in Chittenden County (updated December 2010). The City of Burlington picks up curbside recyclables (but not trash) from Burlington residents. Contact the Burlington Department of Public Works for details: 802-863-9094. Though CSWD does not pick up recyclables or determine the days and routes for recycling pickup, we’ve provided the Burlington Public Works list here for Burlington residents.
Burlington Recycling Street List 6-2008
Haulers are required to provide recycling services along with trash services to their customers in Chittenden County. Occasionally, a business may prefer to market recyclables directly or deliver them to a recycling facility themselves. If your business refuses recycling services provided by your hauler, you must submit this Recycling Service Exemption Form and agree to a visit by CSWD staff as evidence that you are complying with mandatory recycling requirements.

Compressed Natural Gas Trucks On the Road
Three compressed natural gas (CNG) solid waste collection vehicles funded in part by an EPA grant administered by CSWD are now in service in Chittenden County. Casella Waste Systems replaced three diesel-powered trucks with CNG vehicles to reduce emissions and save energy. Casella expects this project to reduce petroleum consumption by 9,000 gallons per year per truck and emissions by 78%.
