Alternative School Fundraisers

School budgets are tight everywhere. As a result, many students and parents are asked to participate in school fundraisers. Too often, this means selling overpriced candy bars, carmel corn, or other items that are essentially unhealthy and unwanted. What is this really teaching our children?

If you're looking for fundraisers that are educational, beneficial, and more in line with your environmental values, consider the options below.

  • The Paper Project fundraiser. Students will learn about the benefits of using recycled paper and then spread the word to families and friends throughout the community. The recycled paper products being offered are useful items like paper towels, bath tissue, and copier paper. They're reasonably priced, and they're good for our environment.

The Leading Environmental Education by Fundraising program (LEEF) promotes the sale of Earth-Friendly products such as cleaning supplies, laundry detergent, recycled paper products and more, to help schools raise money for their programs! Visit the LEEF website for more information.

  • Terracycle , an eco-capitalism company, takes one person's trash and turns it into treasure. You know all those Dorito Bags, Oreo wrappers, and Capri Sun pouches generated at school? Terracycle provides a way for people to collect them, send them in and earn money from them. Terracycle will turn those wrappers into useful products such as purses, bags and pouches. Visit the Terracycle website to learn more!
