What can you do with your Christmas tree? When it's time to take down your Christmas tree, give it one more chance to light up the night when you participate in CSWD's Yule Fuel program. Bring your tree to any of the locations listed below and it will be used as fuel to generate electricity.
What does it Cost?: Up to 3 trees per trip are free at the Drop-Off Centers listed below. Cost is $10 per cubic yard thereafter.
The Williston Drop-Off Center will accept unlimited quantity of trees for free through January. No quantity limit at the McNeil Wood and Yard Waste Depot, all year. Trees are NOT ACCEPTED at the Burlington or Hinesburg Drop-Off Centers.
You may also be able to have your tree picked up curbside via one of these options:
If you live in Burlington: The annual curbside Christmas tree pick-up is happening on Tuesday, January 12. Trees must be completely bare of decorations and at the curbside where you place your recyclables by 7 a.m. that day.
If you live in Colchester: Four Winds, an environmental parent volunteer education program for grades K-5 will pick up trees from Colchester residents on Saturday, January 16 for a $10.00 donation. Call Cheryl Aley at 893-3640 or e-mail her at cherylaley@aol.com with your name, phone, address and identifying description of your home by Wednesday, January 14 to schedule pick-up. Place trees on curb by 8 a.m.
If you live in Essex Junction: The Village of Essex Junction Public Works Department will pick up residential Christmas trees at the curbside Monday, January 4 through Friday, January 8, 2010, weather permitting. Please note that if you place the tree at the curbside before January 4th and it gets buried by snow, it will not be picked up.
If you live in the town of Essex: Please note that due to budget constraints, the town of Essex (outside the village of Essex Junction) will not be collecting trees this year.
If you live in South Burlington: On Saturday, Jan. 9 the South Burlington High School Music Department will pick up trees from 8 am-3 pm for a $10 donation. All proceeds go to support the band students' trip to Greece in April. Put at check for $10 made out to "SBHS Music" in an envelope and plastic baggie and attach it securely to your tree. Put your tree by the curb before 8:00 on the 9th. (Condos and Apartments--leave at entrance of development). If your tree is not picked up by 2 pm on the 9th, call Christina at 863-7819 or Diane at 233-3650. Special requests or questions: email sbhsmusictrees@yahoo.com .
If you live in Winooski: Participate in the Winooski Firefighters Christmas Tree Pick-Up, Saturday January 2, 2010 from 9 am-12 pm. Call 655-6420 to schedule a pickup. Donations welcome.
Note: Be sure to remove all the ornaments before you bring in your tree or set it out for pickup. Wreaths, garlands, and trees with tinsel will not be accepted.
Why aren't wreaths and garland accepted? Wreaths and garland are often made with real pine boughs covered with plastic decorations and attached to a plastic, wire, or wooden frame. You can separate the boughs from the plastic and recycle the boughs along with your tree. You'll have to throw away (or reuse!) the plastic decorations.
